The idea is to capture those things that have made an impression on me. When something “strikes a chord,” it means there is an emotional response; it means something has stirred you within; it means you would like some more.
When I finish a book that I have particularly enjoyed reading, it is a pleasurable feeling, but tinged with some regret for the characters will not continue to grow and be part of my experience. If I look at an amazing painting in a gallery, buy a postcard to remember the experience, and it lives on the fridge door for a while, does that do it justice for the effect it had on me. A stunning football game with a tense atmosphere, a score-in-the-last-minute result, carries so much euphoria, I don’t want that feeling to go away.
If I could just capture a little for posterity, a little reminder of that which made an impression.
